HALLOWEEN QUICK TIPS
To preserve carved pumpkins after cleaning rub petroleum jelly on inside of pumpkin and keep away from direct sunlight. After carving store in refrigerator until guests arrive. To restore life to a fading jack-o-lantern soak in a bath of water each night for an instant face lift!
To preserve whole pumpkins add ¼ cup of bleach to a gallon of water and wipe the outside. Don’t carve, keep in a cool dry place and they will last from Halloween until Thanksgiving. To stock up for your Thanksgiving autumn decorations buy pumpkins the day after Halloween. They will be at a greatly reduced price!
Replace all your candles with black to achieve that haunted look. A few hours before your party light all candles then extinguish, this allows you to relight very quickly just before guests arrive. Always trim wick to ¼” from wax to reduce flame hazards. To make your candles last longer cover with plastic wrap and place in refrigerator for several hours prior to using.
Turn flowers BLACK
Use a white rose, daisy or carnation. Cut stems at an angle and place them in a vase with water. Add several drops food coloring, 4 drops red, 4 drops yellow, 2 drops blue, 2 drops green. Allow stems to soak in tinted water for 2-3 days. The color will be pulled up into the pedals.
Let Candy Do Double Duty
Choose candy that will look great in clear glass, black and orange M & Ms, Candycorn, and black Jelly Beans work great. Fill a jar, vase, or glass with selected candy. Wedge a candle down into the center. Once the party is over you can enjoy eating your decorations!
